Register by Credit Card

We rely on a company called Kagi for all credit card payments.  They've built a safe and secure system for handling these transactions over the web -- they process your order, bill your credit card, and send your registration code to you directly.  It all happens online and takes very little time!

So what do you need to do to register with a credit card?  Three simple steps:

1. You fill out the online order form with your payment information.
2. You submit the form to Kagi via their secure web site.
3. Kagi replies with the registration code via email.

That's it!  Once you receive your registration code(s), just click "Register" inside the game and you can complete your registration.  It couldn't be easier!  Just click on the link to the order form (above) to get started.

Register by Check

For more traditional payment methods (i.e. check, cash, money order), we can handle your order directly here at Haversack!  Just follow these steps:

1. Print the Haversack Software postal order form.
2. Fill out the requested information, including which titles you'd like to purchase.
3. Write a check for the total amount, payable to Susan Brooks.
4. Send the order form and your payment to our address at:

Susan Brooks
P.O. Box 315
Redmond, WA 98073-0315

Once I have received your order, I will generate a special registration code (e.g. "8ag394yu0") and send it to you by email.  At this point, you are a legally registered and licensed user of Whack-A-Word.  Congratulations!  Next, to take full advantage of your registration, you will want to enter the code that I send you into the Whack-A-Word program...

How to Enter the Code

Once you've received your registration code via email, you need to supply this code to the Whack-A-Word program, so it knows that you've registered.  Start Whack-A-Word, select any of the games to play, and then click on the "Register!" menu at the top of the window.  Then on the Ordering Information screen that appears, click the "Enter Registration Code" button.   Finally, on the Register Whack-A-Word screen that appears, type in your name and the registration code that you received.   It should look something like this:

Note: It's very important that you type your name and the code exactly as they were sent to you.  If it's possible, use the copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) commands to reduce the chance of error.

If you're having trouble with your code, first check to make sure the CapsLock key is not on (since upper case letters like 'A' are different from their lower case counterparts like 'a').  Also make sure you're correctly distinguishing between letter oh (O) and the number zero (0), as well as between the letter ell (l) and the number one (1).  If that fails, please feel free to email me!

About Shareware

Whack-A-Word is distributed as a shareware program.  In short, this means you can try it before you buy it.  You are free to evaluate it for 45 games, but if you choose to play the game after the evaluation period, you must register it by sending a registration fee to the author.  That's me :-).

My name is Susan Brooks, and I'm an independent programmer / artist / writer / student currently living in Seattle, Washington.  I wrote the code for Whack-A-Word.  I also wrote the help file, did the artwork, chose the marketing, and put up this web site.  I designed the games from scratch, and I also handle all the registrations.  You just don't get this kind of personalized service from those corporate game publishers!

I really appreciate your registration because:

  1. It helps me continue to improve the game.
  2. It helps me defer the cost of maintaining this web site.
  3. It encourages me to write more shareware games (writing a game takes an awfully long time, and the only way I can really justify the effort is if it means I can work fewer hours at my job).
  4. And most of all it gives me the chance to hear from you -- your feedback is extremely valuable.

But those aren't the only reasons you should register.  It's also a good idea because...

  1. It entitles you to free upgrades to future versions of this game.
  2. It removes the 45-game limit on the shareware version.
  3. It removes the annoying shareware reminders.
  4. It's the right thing to do!

International Users

For users outside the U.S., the cost and procedure for registering Whack-A-Word Pack is the same.  You can pay by a credit card using Kagi's Online Order Form (they will automatically convert from your currency to US dollars and apply any necessary VAT).  Or, if you don't want to use a credit card, you can send $7 USD to the address given above.  Or, if it is inconvenient for you to send US dollars, just  find an appropriate exchange rate for your own native currency and send the cash equivalent of $7.  We always enjoy receiving new foreign currencies in the mail! :-)
