Downloading and installing Loch Ness Solitaire is a simple 3 step process...

Step 1 - Download the Loch Ness self-extracting executable.  The link below will download a copy of LOCHZIP.EXE, a program that contains all of the files that are required by Loch Ness.  LOCHZIP.EXE is 470 KB in size, and should take approximately 1 minute to download using a 56k modem.

Step 2 - Run the self-extracting executable that you just downloaded in Step 1.  This will bring up a dialog like the one below, which allows you to specify a location on your hard drive where you'd like to install the Loch Ness program.  You can accept the default location of "C:\Lochness", or you can type the path to a different folder (e.g. "C:\Games\Lochness" or "C:\Program Files\Lochness") if you'd rather install it somewhere else.

Self-extracting Lochness (4 KB)

Once you've specified the location where you'd like to install Loch Ness, click the Unzip button.  The 7 files that make up Loch Ness will then be extracted, de-compressed, and copied to the folder you have specified.  Loch Ness is now installed on your computer!

Step 3 - Run the Loch Ness program.  To play the game, open the folder where you installed Loch Ness (e.g. C:\Lochness) and double-click on the file named LOCHNESS.EXE.  Its icon should look like this:

From now on, you can simply repeat step 3 whenever you want to play Loch Ness.  Or you can create a Windows shortcut that lets you launch Loch Ness from your desktop or Start menu, as instructed below.

Creating a Shortcut

To make it easier to run Loch Ness, you can create a Windows shortcut to it and place it on your desktop.  Open the folder where you installed Loch Ness (e.g. C:\Lochness), click on the file LOCHNESS.EXE, and drag it onto the desktop.  Windows will automatically create a shortcut (indicated by the little arrow in the lower left corner of the icon) that lets you play Loch Ness without having to open up the Loch Ness folder every time.

Uninstalling Loch Ness

If you ever decide to uninstall Loch Ness, simply delete the folder into which you unzipped it.  For instance, if you accepted the default location in Step 2 above, you can uninstall Loch Ness by deleting the C:\Lochness folder from your hard drive.  If you specified a different location, you'll need to delete that folder instead.

Getting the Zip File

If you have your own copy of WinZip (and you know how to use it) you can download the Loch Ness zip file directly from this site.  It's slightly smaller (195 KB) but contains exactly the same files as the self-extracting executable.
